Steps to Obtaining a Yard Sale Permit

•  You must obtain a Yard Sale Permit in the lobby of City Hall located at 200 West Hobbs Street .

•  Upon entrance of the lobby, located to the right there is a table with Yard Sale Permits.

•  Pick up a permit and sign the log book on the next available line.

Notice of City Ordinances Concerning Yard Sales

•  Prohibits the placing of signs on utility poles, public property, and street right-of ways.

•  Prohibits yard sales to be conducted or held at a city residence on Sunday

•  There shall be no more than four (4) yard sales per calendar year conducted or held at a city residence within the city of Athens , Alabama . For each yard sale conducted, a yard sale permit must be obtained from the city clerk's office.

•  One (1) yard sale may last two (2) consecutive days. These two (2) days of sales would be regarded as one (1) yard sale.

•  A yard sale permit must be displayed at each yard sale.

•  Anyone in violation of said yard sale ordinance shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a misdemeanor offense punishable up to a fifty ($50.00) dollar fine. Each day of violation shall be considered a separate offense.
