Our employment process for each position generally takes from four to seven weeks before a final selection is made. Job Summary: Under general direction of the Chief Operator and other operators, the employee trains to operate an advanced wastewater treatment plant and water treatment plant. Work involves continual monitoring and testing of conditions throughout the plant and making adjustments to insure that treatment standards are maintained as the influent sewage characteristics and flow rate vary over time. Operator monitors conditions in the collection system and alerts Chief operator and co-workers of possible problems. Maintains detailed records of shift activities. Collects samples and performs analytical tests in the laboratory.

TEMPORARY SEASONAL POSITIONS

The City of Athens is accepting applications for temporary part-time seasonal positions. The following positions require that you be at least 16 years of age with a valid driver's license. Work permit can be obtained after selected for employment. Positions do not include benefits.
Ground workers (Laborers) for Public Works Department and Cemetery, Parks, and Recreation Departments- Responsibilities include mowing grass, weed eating, landscaping, grounds maintenance and clean up, lining ball fields, painting, waxing floors, general park maintenance, cleaning restrooms, and other maintenance and clean-up duties. Salary: $8.00/hour.
Scorekeepers- Requires basic math skills, ability to keep score, knowledge of softball, baseball, and basketball rules and regulations. Salary: $7.25 per hour.
Concession Stand Workers – Requires basic math skills, ability to handle and count money, good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, ability to handle customers professionally and courteously. Salary: $7.25 per hour.
School Crossing Guards- HS Diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid Alabama Driver’s License. Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Ability to see and hear well enough to safely direct traffic in intersections. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position. Positions are temporary part-time without benefits. Salary: $400/month.
