Work Experience and Related Job Knowledge
· Significant experience in the construction, operation, and maintenance of wastewater transport system, with at least three years as supervisor. Must have knowledge, skills, qualifications, and functional capabilities as the Construction Supervisor and the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor.
· Ability to design simple projects for wastewater such as the replacement and/or rehabilitation of defective manholes, the replacement of defective sewer mains, the extension of small collector sewers to serve new areas, the implementation of point repairs and the installation of slip lining for l/l control, etc.
· Ability to work with Staff Engineer in the collection of field data and the layout of engineering designs. Ability to assist the Department Manager with planning for personnel and equipment needs within the construction and operations sections. Thorough knowledge of individual workers and work zone safety and the ability to teach and enforce safety regulations and standards.
· Skilled in operating equipment related to construction and maintenance of sanitary sewers, e.g., levels, lasers, backhoes, trackhoes, pumps, rooters, high pressure jet cleaners, inspection TV, etc.
· Functional knowledge of math and hydraulics sufficient to correctly layout and execute simple construction projects, analyze system performance and identify operational problems.
· Mechanical and electrical skills to maintain and repair pumps, motors, simple electrical circuits, alarm systems, TV equipment, etc. Thorough knowledge of sewer system maps and as-built records
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to operate typewriter, computer, telephones, radios, and a wide variety of general office equipment.
· Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills. Ability to perform essential job functions. Ability to drive. Ability to stand for long periods and to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Ability to perform recurring bending, lifting, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Ability to work non-standard hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
