Position:  Water or Wastewater Plant Operator/Trainee

Classification:  Grade 7-grade 10 dependent on qualifications.                                   

Salary Range:   Trainee:   13.51-18.20/hour          Certified Operator:  17.50-23.70/hour  

 

Job Requirements include, but are not limited to the following:

·        High School Diploma or GED.  

·        Two years formal education/training related to wastewater treatment plants a plus. 

·        Related technical school training a plus.  

·        Valid Alabama Driver’s license. 

·        ADEM Grade IV Certification or Ability to obtain ADEM Grade IV Wastewater Plant Operator or Water Plant Operator Certificate within designated time frame. 

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

·        Strong mathematical skills.

 

Job Summary:   Under general direction of the Chief Operator and other operators, the employee trains to operate an advanced wastewater treatment plant or water treatment plant.  Work involves continual monitoring and testing of conditions throughout the plant and making adjustments to insure that treatment standards are maintained as the influent sewage characteristics and flow rate vary over time.   Operator monitors conditions in the collection system and alerts Chief operator and co-workers of possible problems.  Maintains detailed records of shift activities.  Collects samples and performs analytical tests in the laboratory.
