Building Department inspectors utilize a network of modern regulations to embrace all aspects of building construction which include structural assurance, fire protection, as well as plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems. These codes help provide safeguards to the public in homes, offices, schools, stores, factories and places of entertainment.

Other departmental services are:

1. Issuance of all construction, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and gas permits.
2. Enforcement of Zoning Regulations according to comprehensive City Zoning Ordinance to ensure property value protection and control setbacks from property lines for new construction.
3. Enforcement and protection of exterior concepts and structures located in the three districts of the City currently listed in the Federal Register of Historic Sites.
4. Abatement of Condemned and Unsafe Buildings in an attempt to ensure that buildings are maintained or upgraded to meet minimum standards or are demolished to protect public health and safety.
5. Historical Preservation Commission meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM at the Municipal Building. Agenda for Next Meeting

Minor Wiring & Temp Pole

$0.015 per ssq . ft. of heated area
$0.0075 per sq. ft. of unheated area
$15.00 Issuance Fee plus $5.00 = $20.00

Commercial Electrical

$15.00 Issuance Fee
0 - $10,000 - 1% of contract price or estimate of job
Over $10,000 - First $10,000 x 1% ($100) the remainder x .0025 or 1/4%.

Mechanical

$15.00 Issuance Fee
$15.00 for first $1000 of job
$2.00 for each additional thousand

Plumbing

$15.00 Issuance Fee
$3.00 per fixture, trap or drain
$5.00 per water line
$5.00 per sewer line

Gas

1.         For issuing each permit, a fee of $15.00 will be charged.
2.         The total fees for inspection of consumer’s gas piping at one location.
3.         The total fees for inspection (including both rough and final piping inspection) shall be calculated as follows:  fees shall be based on the total British Thermal              Units (hereinafter referred to as “BTUs”) imput load for the installation.  Fees shall be as follows:

150,000 BTUs or less                                   $  25.00
150,001 BTUs to 250,000 BTUs                 $  30.00
250,001 BTUs to 500,000 BTUs                 $  35.00
500,001 BTUs to 1,000,000 BTUs              $  50.00
1,000,001 BTUs to 1,500,000 BTUs           $  75.00
1,500,001 BUTs and over                            $100.00
